Linen has been a favorite in the clothing & textile industries for centuries. It is said to be one of the world’s oldest fabrics and also the most beneficial for your body as well as the environment. Though the healing properties of linen are well-known among those who specialize in its growth & production, The benefits of linen isn't common knowledge to most. So we’re going to change that!
This post is all about the benefits of linen and why you need to add it to your wardrobe!
What Is Linen?
Linen is a fiber that comes from the flax plant and is used across fabric & clothing industries for all sorts of things like sheets, pillowcases, aprons, towels/washcloths, undergarments, clothing, curtains, tablecloths, etc.
Health Benefits of Linen
I mentioned in my previous post The Dangers of Synthetic Fabrics that the clothes we wear, and the fabrics they are made of, can make all the difference to our health. Linen, for example, is by far the healthiest fabric on the planet and has the power to heal and protect your body.
Breathability & Moisture Wicking
Because of its structure linen allows more airflow into your body, making it airy.
Linen doesn’t stick to your body like most clothing when you get hot, as it absorbs body sweat always leaving you feeling nice and dry & it’s comfortable to wear. It also reduces or removes the appearance of sweat spots. This also makes linen odor resistant.
Because of its ability to keep moisture away from your body, this prevents the growth of harmful bacteria and other micro-organisms reducing the possibility of skin rashes, and other skin conditions like eczema. Linen is an excellent fabric for those with sensitive skin, which is a big reason why people love linen bedding, pants, and underwear!
Hypoallergenic & Antibacterial
Linen is said to be one of the cleanest fabrics. It also works wonders for people with sensitive skin because it is hypoallergenic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-lint. It works to suppress pathogens & microflora while repelling dirt and fighting off bad bacteria. So you never have to worry about bacteria or fungi breeding as with other fabrics. Linen also reduces the level of static in one's body and does not cling.
There are also no allergens or skin irritations associated with linen. Because of this I highly recommend linen underwear to women who are prone to bacterial infections for this reason!
Regulates Temperature
Linen is a natural insulator & ventilator so it works well as an extra layer for both hot and cold months because it always keeps a comfortable temperature regardless of the season.
This also makes it great for sleep. People rave about the effects of using linen in their bedding and pillowcases because it prevents sleep sweats. Linen has proven to be one of the best all-season fabrics.
Helps with Wounds
Several decades ago linen was the primary fabric for bandages. Hospitals also used linen sheets because it was widely understood that linen aided in healing and protecting against infections, highly effective in wound care.
Linen bedsheets have been proven to help heal and prevent some skin conditions including bed sores. Patients have been discovered to not develop bedsores when using linen bedding.
Linen was also used in internal medical sutures in surgery. This could be because on a cellular level flax cells are highly complementary to human cells, and those human cells are able to dissolve the linen sutures aiding in faster healing and recovery.
More Health Benefits:
- Flax works as a filter that reduces solar gamma radiation by at least half and is also resistant to other harmful radiation.
- Protects against other chemical exposures
- Works as an effective barrier against some diseases and even viruses
- Linen underwear is known to increase positive emotions
- Helps with inflammatory conditions and even lowers fevers providing a gentle and natural relief
- Helps with neurological issues
- Because of linen’s unique texture, it can perform a light skin massaging effect which can promote feelings of relaxation and contribute to better blood flow..
Linen & Frequency
We’ve learned that linen contains powerful healing properties, but what we don’t know is why. In 2003 a study was conducted and it was proven that fibers that make up certain fabrics contain energy frequencies.
It is important to note that a healthy human body operates at a frequency ranging between 70-90mHz, while a body with chronic disease has a level of 50mHz, and a body with an incurable condition has a level of 15mHz.
With a healthy body ranging from 70-90mHz, anything less than that has been found to cause adverse effects to the human body and does not support human health. The following are the frequencies of the most common fabrics.
Fabric Frequencies:
Silk- 10-15mHz
Rayon- 15mHz
Other synthetic fibers- 0mHz
Organic & Unbleached Cotton- 100mHz
Bleached Conventional Cotton- 4mHz
Linen- 5000mHz
Wool- 5000mHz
It is believed that the healing properties of linen are a result of its frequency. Because it is substantially higher than the frequency of a healthy human body it is considered a “healing frequency”. This makes linen a healing fabric.
It is also important to know that because both linen & wool have a frequency of 5000mHz, under no circumstances are they to ever be worn together.
Linens frequency runs from right to left while wools frequency runs from left to right. So when the two are combined they cancel each other out leaving their frequencies at 0, altering your frequency and having a negative effect on your body. Wearing these two fabrics together has also been known to cause some pain and discomfort.
This scientific discovery correlates to the law given by Moses in Deuteronomy 22:11 “Do not put on a garment of different kinds, of wool & linen together”. This possibly explains why this law was given to the Israelites in Torah(The Law). Something that has been heavily debated over the years.
It was also discovered that flax works as an antenna for energy, which can explain why those who wear linen often experience better moods and higher levels of energy.
More Benefits of Linen
Durability
Linen is 30% stronger than cotton as flax is naturally very sturdy. Because of this, it can last up to 30 years if taken care of. It doesn't lose its shape over time and it gets softer the more you wash it.
Eco-friendly
Flax can grow in poor weather conditions with less water and no fertilizers.
It is environmentally friendly as it is biodegradable and more cost-effective than cotton. All parts of flax can be used in food, oil, or clothing preventing waste. Flax is also an eco-friendly crop with no pesticides or harmful chemicals used in its production.
Low Maintenance
It is an incredibly easy fabric to care for. Linen doesn’t require ironing as it creates unique and natural wrinkles that give it a beautiful look.
Insect Repelling
Linen naturally repels insects and moths, protecting your garments.
Linen & The Scriptures
Flax(Linen) has been used across countries and cultures for thousands of years. In ancient times, linen was worth more than even gold. It was also worn by the priests and prophets of the bible, Pharaohs of Egypt, royalty of other cultures, and lower-class families.
Throughout the Bible, we see linen is mentioned 104 times, most of them throughout the Law in the Old Testament. Many believe that this was due to their limited choices in fabric. However, when we take a deeper look, it appears there may be more to this fabric choice. .
Here are some of the most important mentions of Linen in Scripture:
With all of this information in mind, many would find it hard to believe that this is a mere coincidence. The Most High preferred linen over other fabrics. It appears as though He had His people in linen because it not only healed them down to a cellular level bringing their bodies to a balanced state, essentially purifying their temples in the process, possibly aiding in spiritual cleansing.
Reading about how powerful this fabric is and how important it was and I believe still is to The Most High YHWH, so much so that it was often a requirement. I know that I needed to begin adding it to my wardrobe to where I am in linen the majority of the time.
Considering the negative effects that synthetic fabrics are having on our bodies (I speak more about that here) we should be educated on the clothing that can aid in healing and re-balancing our bodies.
Wrapping Up...
It is safe to say that if you want optimum health, healing & a better immune system and even a deeper spiritual connection, making the switch to linen fabrics, and getting back to the old way would be a great way to start on the path to wellness.
Naturally, what you put IN your body is also extremely important, but it's time we start prioritizing our wellness both on the inside AND the outside.
